5 Micro-habits that changed my life
I am the first person to admit that when I start a new project or goal I go hard and then maybe mid-way through I’m heading back into old habits and old thought patterns. Two years back, I hit a bit of a low and knew I needed changes that stuck, changes that felt good.
That's when I stumbled upon the magic of micro habits – small changes that over time create lasting results. Micro habits can transform any part of your life; start small, keep the big picture in mind, you’ll make it much easier for yourself to ease into those transformations.
So, here are the five micro habits that I have embraced and haven't looked back since!
1. Meditate for at least 1 minute a day
I started with just 60 seconds a day, and then I built up. At first I dove into guided meditations using the Calm app and stumbled upon some gems on YouTube. Whether it's a quick mindfulness boost or a deep-breathing session, this micro habit grounds me and sets the vibe for a positive day.
Tip: Find a quiet spot, plug in those headphones, close your eyes, and just breathe.
2. I journaled every morning and night
Pen and paper became my daily therapy. Morning reflections let me check in and set intentions, while evening journaling is where I spill my thoughts and dive into gratitude. If you're unsure where to start, I swear by "The Journal" by Roxie Nafousi – a 12-week guided program that's like a self-love hug.
Tip: Use prompts or just let the words flow.Your journal is your safe space.
3. Decrease Screen Time
In this digital world we live in, cutting down screen time is a challenge. Working online, on my laptop and using social media meant that my screen time was creeping up, not down. So, I swapped mindless scrolling for evening audiobooks and filled my downtime with baking or creative watercolor sessions. Less screen before bed equals better sleep, and these activities feed my mind and artistic soul.
Tip: Trade your nightly scroll for something that sparks joy!
4. Move my body daily
Understanding and tracking my cycle, coupled with journaling, made this shift easier. I've learned to make my body strong and healthy, adapting my movements to what my cycle demands. Some days it's a full-on workout; other days, it's a quick 5-minute burst. It's not about time; it's about moving in a way that feels good.

5. Go outside
Nature is my go-to healer. A short stroll, a park visit, or just chilling in the backyard works wonders. Connecting with the outdoors hits the reset button for my mind and body.
Tip: Take a few minutes, inhale that fresh air, and let it all go.
Micro-habits aren't about creating rigid rules; they're about building a unique toolkit of rituals that you can use daily to help you feel your best. Start small, try them out, and see what sticks. Small, consistent actions add up to significant transformations.
