Move More: How to Set Up Your Space for Zoom Pilates

One of the best ways to improve your health and wellbeing is with low impact movement like Pilates.

Pilates is a full-body movement method that can set you up for better functionality, daily movement and improved wellbeing. From offering connection to the body and stress relief, to developing flexibility, strength, control and endurance.

You might be thinking how will I be able to do Pilates in the same space that I live and work from? Here are some tips to help transition your living or working space into your place to focus on your health and wellbeing.

Create Space

To separate your living/work space, designate an area within your home that is for your online Pilates classes. When taking part in online classes think about your light source - it’s better to have natural light in front of you rather than behind you so you are visible on screen. Make enough room to practice freely before the class starts, that way you are setting an intention that this spot is for your classes.

Set The Mood

Roll out your mat and have anything you might need to hand (head cushion, an extra layer, socks and equipment). You can use music, scents, and lighting to create a calm atmosphere in your space. Something as simple as, turning off the overhead light and switching to an extra floor or desk lamp can help to put you in the right mindset.

Add Plants To The Space

Plants help create a relaxed space and an increased sense of wellbeing. By bringing nature inside they purify the air and aid in the release of serotonin, which lifts mood and reduces anxiety to feel re-energised.

Position Your Device

Place your device where you can comfortably see it, preferably on the long side of your mat. Having it higher up on a table or shelf helps visibility so that you can see the screen from a variety of positions. Have Zoom installed on your device before the class starts and make sure to turn up the volume on your device so that you can hear the audio.

Keep a Schedule

Find a weekly Pilates class that fits into your schedule. It might be a morning Rise & Shine class to energise, build focus and eliminate stress or maybe you need to wind down after a busy day with Gentle Pilates. When you regularly commit to your Pilates practice in a time you have set aside for yourself, you are more likely to make it a habit. A regular practice can help to reduce stress and align the body with the mind, taking time to focus on your wellbeing.
