Poses 101: Side Reach

The reasons why Side Reach exercise is so great is it strengthens your core muscles, stretches and strengthens the intercostal muscles, allowing the ribcage to expand and improve your breathing. You also activate the muscles around your shoulder girdle which help to stabilise your scapula (shoulder blade)

We spend much of our time hunched over in flexion - if we are working on our laptop/phone or sitting in the sofa. When you side bend you are helping to build that flexibility and learn to engage the correct muscles which helps with daily tasks and promote good posture.

Our bodies love it when we move in different planes of movement, allowing the correct muscles to engage and lengthen.

Side Reach (pictured above) is one of my daily exercises and is a wonderful way to open the side body and feel free when you move.
