Pilates is known for it’s numerous health benefits, it is a highly effective form of exercise that helps connect the mind and body. Pilates is a full-body movement method that can set you up for better functionality, daily movement and improved wellbeing. From offering connection to the body and stress relief, to developing flexibility, strength, control and endurance.

Originally called “Contrology,” Joseph Pilates created this method in the early 20th century; the exercises coordinate movement and breath together to work the whole body. The principles of alignment, breathing and centring as well as precise and flowing movements are taught within each class.

While there may be some cross-overs between Yoga and Pilates, the two are inherently very different. One of the most noticeable differences between the two is the emphasis on the spiritual philosophy in Yoga; with the primary aim of yoga being to unite mind, body and spirit using breath, movement and meditation.

Research shows that people who do Pilates or Yoga say that it relieves stress and improves well-being. Whilst Pilates is not as focused on meditation, both practices teach mindful breathing techniques that can help reduce stress and manage anxiety, while both traditionally encourage students to align the body with the mind, taking time to focus on self-care.

There are plenty of similarities between the two and they compliment each other well, Pilates is for everybody, whatever your age gender or physical level, pilates will enhance your physical and mental well-being, so why not give it a try!?
