4 Benefits of Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone

We all know how easy it is to fall into a routine and stick with what's familiar, but sometimes it's necessary to push ourselves and try something new. As poet Rupi Kaur says, "You do not just wake up and become the butterfly growth is a process" And it’s true, stepping outside our comfort zone is a process but it’s one of the most nourishing things we can do for ourselves. It's a reminder that we are capable of growth and change, and that we have the power to shape our lives in meaningful ways.

Self Growth

Growth and progress come from pushing past our limits, and I truly believe that we are all capable of achieving incredible things if we are willing to challenge ourselves. So if you're feeling like you're stuck in a rut, remember that stepping outside of your comfort zone can be the key to unlocking a whole new level of growth and fulfillment. And Pilates is a great way to start. Not only does it challenge your body in new and unique ways, but it also encourages mindfulness and self-awareness - two essential elements for personal growth.

Nourish Your Mindset

What's interesting is that the newest neuroscientific research has revealed how breaking free from your comfort zone can actually rewire your brain and help you grow in ways you never thought possible. By exposing yourself to new experiences and challenges, you create new neural pathways in your brain and strengthen existing ones. This not only improves your cognitive function and memory but also helps you develop a more positive mindset and outlook on life. For me, the research has been eye-opening in terms of how long you should stay outside of your comfort zone. The key is to consistently challenge yourself with new experiences and obstacles, so that you continue to create and strengthen new neural pathways in your brain.

Build Confidence

When we challenge ourselves, we boost our self-confidence and expand our horizons. We break free from the limitations we've placed upon ourselves, and we open ourselves up to new experiences and opportunities.

Increase Creativity

Trying new things is a natural part of getting out of your comfort zone, letting yourself get rid of your limitations, get creative with new activities or hobbies not only enhances curiosity, but allows for flexible thinking and a way to destress from your daily life.

A Few Words on the Comfort Zone and The Menstrual Cycle

For me, finding that healthy balance between challenging myself and taking care of myself has been key. Cycle syncing has played a big part in knowing when I can push my boundaries, and when I'd rather curl up on the sofa. During the follicular phase, which is the first week or so after your period, estrogen levels begin to rise, which can leave you feeling energized and social. This is a great time to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new, whether that's signing up for a Pilates class or meeting new people.

As you move into the menstrual phase, progesterone levels rise and estrogen and testosterone begin to dip. This can leave you feeling more introspective and introspective, and may make you more likely to want to curl up on the sofa with a good book or movie. And you know what? That's ok too! It's important to honor our bodies and give ourselves the rest and relaxation we need.

Of course, everyone's journey is unique, and what may be uncomfortable for me may not be for you. It's important to listen to our bodies and minds and not push ourselves too far beyond our limits.

So, let's honor our bodies and embrace the uncomfortable and see where it takes us. And if you're ready to try something new, I highly recommend giving Pilates a try. The new 6-week block of classes starts with Rise & Energise on Thursday 13th April at 7:30 am, and I can't wait to see you there. Let's challenge ourselves, break free from our comfort zones, and grow together.
